LOWER PROVIDENCE TOWNSHIP, Pa.- A father has been charged for the death of his 10-month-old daughter, who authorities say he sexually assaulted.
Austin Stevens, 29, an assistant youth coach, has been charged with rape of a child, aggravated assault and other charges in the death of his daughter Zara Scruggs, according to Montgomery County officials.
Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele told reporters at a press conference that the 10-month-old was at her father’s house on Saturday, where she was found unresponsive, after 911 was called.
She was taken to a nearby Hospital, where she later died.
Steele says first responders found a blood soaked diaper on the child.
An autopsy revealed that Zara was raped, and had also suffered blunt force trauma to her head. Steele says authorities are still waiting for additional forensic results to determine the child’s cause of death, which could mean that Stevens could face more charges.
Steele say that Stevens had conducted several google searches, such as “how do you know if your baby is dead”, “how do you know if a baby is dead” and more.
Steven’s is being held on a $1 million bond.
