17-year-old Kenosha shooter part of militia group who asked police to be deputized

KENOSHA- 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse, who’s accused of shooting three counter-protesters, killing two, was part of a militia group who asked police if they could be deputized.

Authorities on Wednesday said that members of the group Rittenhouse has been linked to, called police, asking them “Why don’t you deputize citizens who have guns to come out and patrol the city of Kenosha?” Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth said at a press conference, adding “And I’m like, “Oh, hell no.” What happened last night is the perfect reason why I wouldn’t.”

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that Rittenhouse was part of a militia group who called themselves “The Kenosha Guard”.

The group created a Facebook page, and had posted an event titled “Armed Citizens to Protect our Lives and Property”, before the page was taken down on Wednesday morning.

Rittenhouse, armed with an AK-47, killed a 26-year-old man, and a 36-year-old man.

Several video’s show police witnessing Rittenhouse approaching counter-protesters with his AK-47, and police did nothing to intervene. Police allegedly thanked Rittenhouse after killing the 2 protesters.

Rittenhouse’s mother was allegedly aware that he was going to travel from Chicago armed with an AK-47, down to Kenosha, and allowed him to do so.

Rittenhouse is trying to justify the killings, by saying that the protesters were looters, now compared to him, an accused killer.

Rittenhouse has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide. He’s waiting to be extradited.

The shooting occurred on the third night of protests, for the senseless shooting of Jacob Blake, an unarmed black man, who was shot 7 times in his back, as he was walking away from police. Minutes before, Black was trying to break up a dispute between two of his neighbors.
