ILLINOIS- Two EMT workers have been charged with murder in the death of a patient under their care.
Lifestar EMS workers Peggy Finley, 44, and Peter Cadigan, 50, were both charged with first-degree murder in the tragic death of 35-year-old Earl L. Moore Jr., according to a press conference.
Police were called to Moore’s residence on December 18 and found him suffering from a hallucinatory episode and called EMT’s.
Moore was to be transported by Cadigan and Finley in an ambulance to the hospital.
The two EMT’s allegedly placed Moore face-down on a paramedic stretcher and tied him down with a strap across his back and lower body.
The entire incident was caught on a responding officer’s body cam.
An autopsy revealed that Moore died from “compressional and positional asphyxia due to prone face-down restraint on a paramedic transportation cot stretcher by tightened straps across the back.”
Cadigan and Finley were both booked into jail on $1 million bail.
If found guilty, both face up to 20 to 60 years in prison.
