ILLINOIS- A mother of five children who died inside of their home after a fire is now facing charges, police say.
Sabrina M. Dungan, 34, was not at home when the fire broke out around 3 a.m. on Aug. 6. She had left her 5 kids at home to pick up a friend from work, authorities told KSDK-TV.
The St. Clair County State Attorney’s Office charged Dungan with five counts of endangering the life or health of a child Wednesday.
The five young victims were identified as Loy-el Dunigan, 2, Jabari Jackson, 4, twins Heaven and Nevaeh Dunigan, and the oldest, Deontae Davis, 9.
The deadly fire happened on Sabrina’s birthday.
She lived with her father and his wife, who survived the fire. The grandfather said he and his wife escaped after seeing the fire had spread to the children and left them no choice but to jump out of the second-floor window.
