CHICAGAO- An 8-year-old girl watched as her mother killed her younger sister according to prosecutors.
New details are emerging in the brutal killing of 5-year-old Serenity Arrington, who was allegedly stabbed to death by her mother, Simone Austin, on Saturday.
Prosecutors say that both sisters were in Austin’s bedroom, when she sked her 8-year-old daughter to leave the room. The oldest child, watching through a missing doorknob, witnessed her mother grab a knife from under a pillow and stab her sister to death according to the Chicago Tribune.
The sister went back inside of the bedroom, yanking on her mothers hair, as her younger sister pleaded and apologized for their mother to stop attacking her, prosecutor’s added.
The Chicago Tribune reports that the oldest sister then ran outside of their home, yelling that her mother was killing her sister.
Authorities say that Austin, 27, then took her daughter’s bloody body outside, and her on the street, telling a witness and a paramedic that she “did it” and “was sorry.”
An autopsy determined that Serenity had died from multiple stab wounds to her neck, with a slash so deep, it almost reached the back of her neck. Her death was ruled as a homicide.
Austin was charged with first-degree murder, and is currently being held without bail.
