Parents sentenced to just 2 years in prison for starving adoptive son

ALABAMA- A judge sentenced two parents to serve just 2 years for starving and torturing their adoptive son.

Cynthia Kelly, 51, and her husband Richard were sentenced on Thursday to the maximum allowed under a previous deal, according to AL.com.

The boy’s nightmare came to an end in 2016, when Richard took him to a Hospital, and the teen weighed less than 55 pounds. Staff at the Hospital contacted authorities.

The boy was near death according to doctors. He was suffering from malnourishment, hypothermia, acute respiratory distress, dehydration and shock.

Once interviewed by investigators, the teen boy told them how the Kelly’s kept him locked for up to 23 hours a day, in a room that was equipped with a camera, a boxspring for a mattress and an alarm system.

Both “parents” testified that they didn’t abuse Ethan, and they didn’t believe they had did anything wrong.

Shelby County Circuit Judge William H. Bostick told the court that he would’ve handed down a harsher punishment, if he had the power.
