Girl whose police run-in led to reform when she was 11 has died at 14

MICHIGAN- A 14-year-old girl who was thrown in handcuffs at 11, has died from COVID-19.

Honestie Hodges’ died after a two week battle with the deadly virus at a children’s Hospital, according to her grandmother on the girl’s GoFunDMe page that was posted on Sunday.

Honestie tested positive for the virus on Nov. 9.

Honestie made headlines in 2017, after the Grand Rapids Police Department handcuffed her and placed her in the back of a cop car.

Police released her, and said that she had fit the description of a 40-year-old woman who was wanted for a stabbing.

A year later, that same police department adopted a new policy to promote better relationships with the youth.
