Couple charged with child abuse; children beaten with refrigerator handles

NEW JERSEY- A couple were arrested and charged with child abuse on Tuesday, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Aldredo Medina, 48, and Wanda Fernandez, 30, were both charged as a result of an investigation that began on Feb. 8. when Child Protect Services contacted them about because they were concerned about a 10-year-old boy.

Authorities say the 10-year-old in question and a 12-year-old told them that the couple had been physically abusing them for almost 4 years.

Medina and Fernandez beat the children with power cords, refrigerator handle and metal belt buckles.

Medina was charged with one count of second degree aggravated assault, two counts of third degree aggravated assault; two counts of second degree endangering the welfare of a child; one
count of third degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose; one count of fourth degree
unlawful possession of a weapon and two counts of terroristic threats.

Fernandez was charged with two counts of second degree aggravated assault; two counts of third degree aggravated assault; two counts of second degree endangering the welfare of a child; two counts of third degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose; and three counts of fourth degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
