MANHATTAN- A woman who was beaten by her husband with a crowbar on a Manhattan street has died, police say.
49-year-old Maria Kelly, 49, died on Friday, four days after police say she was assaulted by her her husband, Julio Aponte, 63.
Aponte was allegedly heard yelling “How dare you cheat on me?!” to Kelly before brutally attacking her with the crowbar, reports The New York Daily News.
Aponte fled the scene on his motorcycle, leaving the crowbar behind, which was wrapped in plastic and inside a bookbag. A short time later, he called 911 and turned himself.
Police initially charged Aponte with attempted, but since Kelly has died because of her injuries, he’s now facing homicide charges, according to the paper.
