LAS VEGAS- A man has been arrested and charged after he hung his dog up on a fence in the sweltering heat and left it there to die.
Animal Care & Control were called to the suspect’s home Tuesday afternoon and found the puppy hanging on a fence next the apartment complex’s main office, reports The New York Daily News.
The dog was pronounced dead.
Police say when they attempted to detain the puppy’s owner, he walked away. Officers went back to the home and arrested 40-year-old Tobenna Okobi.
Okobi told police that he had been searching for his dog for a day after it went missing but police say video footage from the complex proves otherwise.
Footage allegedly shows Okobi walking the dog in front of his apartment and returning without it.
Authorities determined that Okobi left the puppy outside in 113 degree weather without food or water which caused the dog to die.
Okobi was charged with willful or malicious torture and killing of an animal. He was also held on an outstanding warrant charging him with carrying a concealed weapon with a permit and possession of controlled substances.
