NORTH CAROLINA- A 4-year-old boy is dead after accidentally shooting himself.
The boy was left alone in the living room, as the adults in the home were eating, playing card games, smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol at the home when he found the gun under a couch cushion, according to a news release from the High Point Police Department.
When police responded to call about a shooting at the residence earlier this week, they discovered the boy with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.
First responders attempted to save the boy, but he was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Police say they allegedly found two firearms, “multiple firearm accessories” ammunition, cocaine and marijuana.
The boy’s mother, Cindy V. Gibson-Harris, was charged with felony child abuse. She’s currently in jail on $50,000 bond.
The owner of the home was arrested and charged with felony possession of cocaine and maintaining a dwelling for the use of controlled substances, police say.
