NYC- An inmate at Rikers Island was found dead in his jail cell and authorities are now investigating his death.
The New York City Department of Correction said 25-year-old Brandon Rodriguez was found unresponsive in a cell at Rikers’ Otis Bantum Correctional Center around 12:40 a.m. on Tuesday, reports PIX11.
Correctional officers allegedly administered CPR and called for medical emergency, according to the DOC.
He was pronounced dead by medical staff.
Rodriguez’s attorney, Sharon Covino, says her office is doing an independent investigation into his death as well.
Rodriguez was arrested on August 4 in Staten Island on domestic violence charges.
