TENNESEE- A man accused of murdering a 2-year-old girl was accidentally freed from jail after a “clerical error”, police say.
A judge had set Tylan McCray’s bond at $15 million at a court hearing on Tuesday BUT he was able to post bond by the end of the day due to the clerical error.
“Someone in the clerk’s office mistakenly entered the bond into the system as $15,000,” Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich said, according to WREG.
McCray was apprehended on Wednesday.
McCray was in jail on first-degree murder, attempted murder and employment of a firearm charges for the murder of Laylah Washington.
Washington was killed in 2017 by McCray, after her mother, who she was in riding in a car with, got into an argument with four men in a black Sedan he was riding in, police say.
Washington was shot in the head and died two days later.
McCray’s cousin was charged as an accessory in the case.
