TEXAS- A man was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Wednesday for targeting gay men on the dating app Grindr in a series of attacks.
Daniel Jenkins, 22, admitted in court docs that he and his three co-defendants choose their targets because of the victims’ sexual orientation, according to the Justice Department, reports The Post.
The co-defendants would create fake profiles on Grindr to lure their victims to vacant apartments.
Once inside, the men would hold the victims against their will, pistol-whip them and beat them before forcing them to drive to nearby ATM’s to withdraw cash, prosecutors say.
One of the assailants tried to sexually assault one of the victims, and another “urinated and wiped human feces on at least one victim.”
The attacks began in 2017 and targeted at least 9 victims.
Jenkins pleaded guilty in June to a federal hate crime charge, one count of using a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence and one count of conspiracy to commit hate crimes, kidnapping and carjacking.
His three co-defendants also pleaded guilty and sentenced to prison.
Pablo Ceniceros-Deleon was sentenced to 22 years, Daryl Henry was sentenced to 20 years and Michael Atkinson was sentenced to 11 years.
