CALIFORNIA- A $20 million lawsuit against rapper Lil Wayne was dismissed by a judge.
The rapper was sued by his former lawyer last year for alleged inadequate compensation, according to court docs obtained by Complex.
The judge said the lawsuit wasn’t filed in the proper jurisdiction. Instead of the suit being filed in Florida, where Lil Wayne lives and works, the suit was filed in California, reported Complex.
Ronald Sweeney claims that aside from being Wayne’s lawyer, he was also his manager. Documents claim that Lil Wayne “failed and refused to pay Plaintiffs his promised 10 percent of the recovery from lawsuits, 10 percent of sale of master recordings owned by Lil Wayne’s record label and the 17 percent in general commissions that he owes to Plaintiff’s in connection with Plaintiff’s day to day management activities.”
Sweeny also claims that he’s owed money from finalizing Lil Wayne’s Settlement with Cash Money Records.
Lil Wayne denies the accusations, saying he never hired Sweeney to be his manager and that he was never on the team that helped with his settlement against Cash Money Records.
Wayne countersued Sweeney, claiming the lawyer overcharged him throughout the years they worked together.
