CHICAGO- An 8-year-old girl was killed by a stray bullet Saturday as she walked with her mother on a sidewalk, police say.
The girl and her mother were not the intended targets, reports the Chicago Tribune.
The two were walking when gunfire erupted, and they ran inside of a bank for cover. The mother noticed her daughter’s injuries and she was rushed to a hospital. She was later pronounced dead.
The mother was unharmed.
A 26-year-old man, who police say was the intended target, was also injured in the shooting and remains in critical condition.
The shooter reportedly got out of his vehicle and began shooting in the direction of the 26-year-old before fleeing.
