Texas Mall Shooting Leaves Off-Duty Officer Dead, Suspect Killed

TEXAS- An off-duty police officer was killed and a suspect on Wednesday after a deadly shooting inside of a mall, police say.

The deadly incident happened at the PlazAmericas Mall.

Police say the officer, identified as Neil Adams, got into an altercation with the suspect just before 4 p.m., according to Houston police Chief Troy Finner.

The unidentified 35-year-old suspect grabbed Adam’s gun during the altercation and shot him before fleeing the mall.

Police encountered the suspect, who allegedly had a knife.

The suspect was shot twice and killed by police after he allegedly began to walk towards them. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The names of the officers are being withheld and they have been put on administrative duty pending an investigation into the shooting.
