Man Robbed More Than 20 Men On Grindr Dating App; 1 Victim Allegedly Stabbed

CALIFORNIA- A man is accused of robbing more than 20 men he met through the gay dating app Grindr, allegedly stabbing one of his victims, prosecutors say.

Derrick Patterson, 22, was arrested Monday by the FBI, reports Fox News.

Patterson allegedly robbed his victims from 2019 to 2022, targeting them on Grindr and meeting up with them in hotels.

He would allegedly pull out a taser or knife and demand that the men hand over their cash and valuables, taking their cellphones and money. He even took a victim’s credit card and withdrew money from an ATM, authorities say.

Patterson is also accused of assaulting his victims.

In an incident from Sept. 2020, Patterson was allegedly engaging in sexual intercourse with one of the victims when he demanded that the man give him his cellphone and attempted to access the victims Apple Pay and asked for the password, according to Fox News.

He’s also accused of stabbing one of his victims in the chest in 2020. The victim survived and was able to identify Patterson as his attacker.

A search warrant shows that Patterson was at the hotels at the time of two robberies, police say.

Patterson faces up to 20 years in prison.
