SOUTH CAROLINA- A death row inmate has elected to be executed by a firing squad over the electric chair by the end of this month.
Richard Bernard Moore, 57, is the first prisoner in the state of South Carolina to choose his form of capital punishment.
Moore has been on death row for decades after being convicted of the 1999 murder of a store clerk. He was initially scheduled to be executed by lethal injection in 2020 but officials couldn’t secure the lethal injection drugs needed.
Moore is set to be shot to death by three prison guards with rifles on April 29. This makes him the fourth American to be executed by a firing squad since 1976.
