Supreme Court Overturns Roe Vs. Wade; What This Means For Women

The Supreme Court in a 5-4 decision on Friday overturned Roe VS. Wade, the landmark ruling that established the constitutional right to abortion in America in 1973.

This court’s ruling allows each state to set their own abortion laws unless Congress acts.

The decision will put the lives of many women’s health in danger, as they can no longer turn to their state to protect their rights as a woman. Many women are expected to travel out of their state in order to have abortions.

Protests have begun in New York City, and many celebrities have shown outrage on social media. Singer Lizzo wants to donate $1 million to Planned Parenthood.

President Biden said after the decision:

“It was three justices named by Donald Trump, who were the core of today’s decision to upend the scale of justice and eliminate a fundamental right for women in this country. “Make no mistake, this decision is a culmination of a deliberate effort over decades to upset the balance of our law.”
