DETROIT- A mother was arrested after her son’s decomposing body was found in a basement freezer, authorities say.
The boy’s body was found by officers from the Detroit Police Department and Child Protective Services on Friday during a welfare check, according to the Detroit News.
The unidentified woman pushed officers away when they attempted to go inside of her residence. Once inside, police found 5 children living in squalor.
The boy was later identified by his family as Chase Allen.
His grandmother told the Detroit News that she had called Child Protective Services numerous times on her daughter. The grandmother said she became suspicious after her daughter told her Chase had burnt his hand on a plate of noodles because he was blind.
The boy’s mother told his grandmother that he was living with his paternal grandfather’s girlfriend, but that story turned out to be false.
A cause of death for the boy hasn’t been released.
