OREGON- Ducks tight end Spencer Webb died on Wednesday after falling and suffering a head injury while at Triangle Lake in Oregon.
The Lane County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Webb’s identify Thursday, reports NBC.
Police responded to the incident at the Triangle Lake around 2:30 p.m. after receiving a report about someone who was hurt near the lake’s rock slides.
The rockslides are reportedly rock formations that visitors use at the lake as “natural waterslides” which are surrounded by waterfalls and areas to swim.
Webb was discovered unconscious 100 yards down a “steep trial”. He couldn’t be revived. Witnesses say he fell and hit his head, according to NBC.
It’s believed that Webb’s fall was accidental.
Head football coach of the Oregon Ducks, Dan Lanning, paid tribute to Webb on Twitter:
“So full of life in every moment of the day,” he wrote. “Your smile and energy will be missed Spencer. I love you!”
The 22-year-old was reportedly preparing to enter his fifth season at the university.
