Prosecutors to review rape claim against Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter

The Santa Monica police department has brought a sex assault case that involves Nick Carter from the Backstreet boys to The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and now the office is reviewing the case. According to CBS News, the case was brought to the D.A.’s office on July 31st. These claims come from Melissa Schuman, who was part of the all girl group Dream and according to CBS, Schuman filed the police report in February. She also opened up and told her told on a T.V. morning show, several months back. Schuman claims she was sexually assaulted in Carter’s Santa Monica home; his bathroom & bedroom to exact. Schuman says these incidents took place in the early 2000’s. Schulman was reportedly 18 at the time and Carter was 22 years old. Schuman took to her blog last Nov and wrote how she Carter forced oral sex on her and then coerced her to do the same act on him. She said Carter forced himself on her, after she told him that she didn’t want to have sex with him by pinning her down on his bed and allegedly raping her. Schulman also went on to say how she feared Carter because he was bigger than her in size. Nick Carter immediately released a statement exclusively to People magazine after Schulman’s accusations saying, “I am shocked and saddened by Ms.Schuman’s accusations. Melissa never expressed to me while we were together or at any time since that anything we did was not consensual. We went on to record a song and perform together together, and I was always respectful and supportive of Melissa both personally and professionally”. This is the first time that I am hearing about these accusations, nearly two decades later. It is contrary to my nature and everything I hold dear to intentionally cause someone discomfort or harm.” Cover photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez / Getty Images
