Rapper YNW Melly Allegedly Planned Jail Escape With Cellmate Using Attorney’s Help, Police

FLORIDA- Rapper YNW Melly is accused of allegedly attempting to escape jail with the help of his attorney, according to authorities.

A “confidential” source told authorities that the rapper, whose real name is Jamell Demons, and his cellmate were going to attempt to escape confinement, the Broward County Sheriff’s Department told a judge, according to Rolling Out.

“On April 11, 2022, Broward Sheriff’s Office received a confidential tip regarding inmates Nicholas Lewis and Jamell Demons, both housed in the same unit at the Main Jail, planning an escape by having Demons’ attorney bring in two handcuff keys to aid in the escape,” read a statement obtained by Complex.

The source also told authorities that Lewis allegedly had a skank and drugs.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office said the sources tips were “a hundred percent true” regarding the shank, after police say they discovered one in Lewis’ cell.

Authorities didn’t find any handcuff keys in Demons’ cell, or any evidence that he was in fact planning on escaping jail, as the source claimed.

The judge has yet to rule on the merits, and possible consequences based on the Sheriff’s Department’s claims.

YNW Melly is accused of killing his two friends in 2018.

He was charged with two counts of premeditated first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of fellow YNW members YNW Juvy, whose real name is Christopher Thomas Jr. and YNW Sakchaser, Anthony Willaims.

If Melly is convicted, he faces the life in prison.
