ARIZONA- A man went to a hotel for what he believed was going to a be date from Tinder was robbed at gunpoint by a couple, police said.
The unidentified victim showed up to an Embassy Suites hotel room last month to meet up with a woman named “Sophia” he had matched with on the Tinder dating app, according to Phoenix police.
When the victim got to the room, where Jose Sandoval Jaquez, 32, and Crystal Hulsey, 32, were waiting. Jaquez allegedly pointed a gun at the victim and demanded he hand over his personal belongings, reports Fox 10 News.
The victim handed over his cellphone, bank information, PINS, social media accounts and his I.D.
Jaquez and Hulsey then forced the victim to drive them to a bank, where they left in the vehicle. They withdrew $900 on Sept.17 and a total of $3000 since the initial incident, the victim says.
The pair drove to Las Vegas where police located the vehicle on Sept. 25 with a handgun inside.
Several days later, police found an escort ad online with Hulsey’s info on it. Police set up a date to meet her and waited as Hulsey arrived in a Nissan Rogue driven by Jaquez.
When police attempted to arrest the pair, they drive off, speeding and driving on the wrong side of the road.
The couple stopped during the high-speed chase and carjacked the driver of another vehicle before driving off. They attempted to carjack another vehicle, but police arrested them before they could.
Jaquez and Hulsey face charges of armed robbery with a deadly weapon, assault and more.
