HOUSTON- A man who was charged with shooting an 8-year-old boy was sentenced to 45 years in prison on Wednesday.
Richard Spiller, 31, is accused of allegedly firing into a crowd of people on April 15, after an altercation between an 8-year-old and Spiller’s son, police said, according to ABC13.
He was initially facing life in prison, and allegedly stole catalytic converters from city vehicles while out on bail, according to reports.
Police say that the 8-year-old was playing basketball with Spiller’s son, who’s 12 years old. During the game, there was an argument between the two, and the victim slapped Spiller’s son in the face.
The boy told his father what happened, and he decided to go to the boy’s home to demand answers, which he didn’t get because he returned again, this time with a van full of people when he began to shout at the family, who were in front of the home.
On his 3rd visit to the victim’s home, Spiller returned on foot, shooting at the family, who were out on the porch.
The 8-year-old was shot in his knee. He luckily survived but will never play sports.
