Man indicted for murder after bodies of 3 women were found in his home; plus more victims

A grand jury in Springfield charged Stewart Weldon,41, with 3 counts of murder, 9 counts of aggravated rape, 8 counts of strangulation, 2 counts of rape, assault to rape and kidnapping charges.

The 52-count indictment charges against Weldon were brought by the Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni. He alleged that Weldon killed 3 women, raped and strangled 7 others, kidnapped and assaulted an 11th victim.

Authorities say Weldon began his killing and raping spree in the Spring of 2017 but it all came to a stop when he was pulled over back in May for a broken taillight.

Police charged Weldon with kidnapping and beating a woman who was found in his car on May 27th. Three days later the police were ordered to go over to Weldons bungalow after a neighbor complained of a foul smell coming from inside his residence.

When police entered Weldon’s home, it was then that they discovered the reason for the foul odor. The bodies of Ernestine Ryans, 47, America Lyden, 34, both from Springfield and Kayla Escalante, 27 from Ludlow were found inside.

Authorities say the women were killed between Aug. 1, 2017, and May 2018. Weldon is being held on a $2 million dollar bail for two kidnapping cases.

Weldon has pleaded not guilty to the kidnapping charges.
