Rapper Mac Critter One Of Two Men Charged In Deadly Shooting

MEMPHIS- Rapper Mac Critter has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a man who was killed in Dec.

A second man, Gary Taylor, also faces a charge of first-degree murder, according to WATN Memphis.

According to a police affidavit, officers say they responded to a shooting on Dec. 21, 2022, in the 600 block of Wells Ave. When they arrived, Markeith Taylor was found dead at the scene. He had been shot several times, WATN reports.

Authorities said a witness told police an SUV with four men inside pulled into a vacant lot on Wells and then left. The witness said the SUV pulled back into the lot a short time later, and a man, Mac Critter, whose real name is Daniel Bates, called out to the victim to get out of his van and come over to them.

As Taylor walked over to the four men, they allegedly approached him and pulled out guns. Taylor is accused of shooting the victim several times and continued to fire as the victim was on the ground. The men then fled the scene in the SUV, according to WATN Memphis.

Taylor was released from jail on his own recognizance after he was arraigned on Dec. 31, but on Jan. 3, his bond was revoked, and he was sent back to jail, the outlet reports.

Mac Critter is signed to rapper Gucci Mane’s 1017 Records label.
