Illinois School District Worker Accused Of Stealing $1.5 Million In Chicken Wings

ILLINOIS- An official at an Illinois school district was arrested after allegedly stealing $1.5 million worth of food, which were mainly chicken wings, from the district during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a report.

Vera Liddell, 66, was held at the Cook County Jail on $150,000 bond, according to WGN-TV.

Liddell, worked at the Harvey School District as the food service director.

WGN-TV reviewed court documents which showed that over 11,000 cases of chicken were ordered and picked up in a district cargo van during the pandemic.

During this time, students were remotely learning, but like many schools around the country, the schools continued to cook meals for children that parents could pick up.

Prosecutors said district funds were used to purchase food, but the food was NEVER provided to the students, the news station reports.

When an audit was conducted in the middle of the year, school officials discovered that the district was $300,000 over its annual food service budget.
