WISCONSIN- The body of a missing teenager was discovered in a ditch next to her crashed car, police said.
Daniela Velaquez, 17, was reported missing on Sunday, January 29, by her mother when she didn’t return home, according to the Brown County Sheriff’ Office.
The teenager’s car was found crashed in a ditch that afternoon, and her shoes and phone were recovered outside of the vehicle.
Her body was found on Monday about a quarter of a mile from where the crashed car was found. Police believe that the crash was an accident, and foul play has been ruled out, according to WLUK.
In a press conference held on Tuesday, Brown County Sheriff’s Office Capt. David Poteat said that snowy conditions make the search for Velaquez difficult.
Police searched 37 acres for Velaquez, using drones, a K-9 crew and snowmobiles.
It’s believed that Velaquez died from hypothermia, but an autopsy is being conducted for an official cause of death.
