Rapper Bad Bunny is being sued by his ex-girlfriend for $40 million for allegedly using her voice in his songs without her consent.
According to the Associated Press, Carliz De La Cruz Hernàndez, claims she sent a voice note to the Puerto Rican rapper saying “Bad Bunny Baby” during the time they were dating and is now seeking $40 million in damages.
The musician used the recording in his song “Pa Ti”, which gathered more 355 million views on YouTube, and then again on “Dos Mil 16,” which got him more than 60 million views.
De La Cruz claims her “distinguishable voice” has been used without her consent for songs, worldwide concerts, radio, television and musical performances, The Associated Press reported.
The suit alleges that “Since then, thousands of people have commented directly on Carliz’s social media networks, as well as every time she goes to a public place, about the ‘Bad Bunny, baby.’ This has caused, and currently causes, De La Cruz to feel worried, anguished, intimidated, overwhelmed, and anxious,” according to the outlet.
She said she recorded the voice note in her friend’s bathroom.
Bad Bunny and De La Cruz began dating in 2011. She says the Grammy-Award winning artist would often get her opinions on his music.
De La Cruz says she was in charge of scheduling his appearances and handling contracts and invoices. They eventually broke up in 2017 after he had signed a deal and she went on to attend college.
The suit also claims that a rep for Bad Bunny told De La Cruz that he needed to speak to her in May 2022. In the call, the rep said, ‘I know you don’t like to talk about Voldemort (Bad Bunny), but I need to ask you something.”
According to the suit, the rapper offered to pay De La Cruz $2,000 to by the recording, but she declined.
Bad Bunny is now reportedly dating Kendall Jenner.
