NEW YORK- Podcaster and blogger Taxstone was sentenced Tuesday to serve 35 years in prison for the 2016 deadly shooting at Irving Plaza that left a rapper’s bodyguard dead.
Taxstone, whose real name is Darly Campbell, was ordered to serve his sentence in state prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision for the killing of Ronald “Banga” McPhatter, a friend and a bodyguard of his nemesis Troy Ave.
Campbell continues to maintain his innocence, claiming he was a victim of a calculated hit ordered by Troy Ave, who he’s had a “longstanding feud” with, prosecutors, according to New York Post.
Taxstone said “half the stuff that was told on the stand by Troy Ave, who was offered a shorter sentence for testimony — is a complete lie to protect himself from going to jail,” according to journalist Shawn Setaro.
Taxstone was found guilty in March of first-degree manslaughter, assault and other charges in the killing of McPhatter and injuring three others, including Troy Ave at Iring Plaza while rapper T.I. was performing.
