ALABAMA- A woman disappeared on Thursday after she called 911 to report a toddler who was walking along an interstate, police said.
25-year-old Carlethia “Carlee” Nichole Russell called 911 on Thursday around 9:34 p.m. to report a toddler she saw walking along on the side of Interstate 459 South near Birmingham, according to the Hoover Police Department.
Russell then went to check on the toddler and called a relative.
While on the phone with the relative, Russell stopped talking on the phone, but the line reportedly “remained opened”, police said.
Russell’s mother said she heard her daughter screaming on the phone before they were disconnected.
When officers arrived at the scene, Russell’s car and some of her belongings were found near-by, but police didn’t find her or the toddler she called 911 about.
Her cell phone was also found at the scene.
Police said Russell left her shift at work around 8:20 p.m., and then most likely stopped at a restaurant to pick up food before she called police.
Witnesses said they saw a light skinned man standing in front of Russell’s car, and police said there are reports of any missing children in the area.
