Tory Lanez Lawyers Want Judge To Release Him Into Substance Abuse Program Before Sentencing

LOS ANGELES- Singer Tory Lanez’ lawyers are asking a judge that he be released from jail and into a substance abuse program before his sentencing.

The Canadian-born rapper and singer’s legal team are requesting that their client be released from jail so that he can be admitted into a substance abuse program as he’s currently serving time in jail, according to a report from Meghann Cuniff which was published Aug. 2.

Tory’s defense attorneys, Jose Baez and Ed Welbourn filed a 41-page memo that in which they said they said there was doubt over the evidence that found him guilty.

“Mr. Peterson’s psychological, physical, and childhood trauma was a factor in the commission of the offense.” Baez and Welbourn said in the memo ”

The memo continues “Likewise, the current offense is connected to Mr. Peterson’s childhood trauma and mental illness, alcohol-use disorder. Mr. Peterson’s alcohol-use disorder, although not amounting to a defense, reduced his culpability.”

Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was convicted back in December 2022 after being charged for shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion.

Prosecutors are seeking 13 years for the singer.

His sentencing date has been set for August 7 at 10:30 a.m.
