BROOKLYN- A 17-year-old suspected of O’Shae Sibley as he was voguing to Beyoncé at a gas station last weekend has been arrested and charged.
The teen reportedly turned himself in to police custody on Friday as he was accompanied by his attorney. He was charged with murder as a hate crime and criminal possession of a weapon, according to ABC News.
The charges may be upgraded.
On July 29, the 28-year-old dancer was killed while he and his friends were filling up at a gas station around 11 p.m. in Brooklyn. One of his friends was filming their night out on Facebook Live.
Police say video surveillance shows a man walking up to Sibley and them engaging in a dispute. The suspect allegedly made homophobic comments to Sibley, which made him upset.
Two groups began arguing and Sibley was stabbed in his torso, and he died from his injuries.
Investigators believe Sibley was targeted because he was openly gay.
