Man Connected To Pop Smoke’s Death Was Shot Before Being Found Inside Barrel In Malibu

MALIBU – A man whose naked body was found dead inside of a barrel this past weekend was shot, police said.

The aspiring rapper was identified on Wednesday by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office as Javonnta Marshann Murphy, 32.

The coroner’s office has listed Murphy’s cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head, the Los Angeles reported.

Murphy’s death is still under investigation, but it was discovered that his brother, Jaquan Murphy, was initially charged in the death of rapper Pop Smoke before his charges were cleared, TMZ reported.

Jaquan was one of five men who were charged.

He is currently waiting trial for another murder.

Authorities are investigating the possibility that Javonnta’s murder was revenge for Pop Smoke’s murder.

Pop Smoke, 20, was shot and killed in Feb. 2020 during a robbery in a Hollywood Hills home.
