LOS ANGELES- Singer Tory Lanez’s request to be released from prison as he appeals his conviction in Megan Thee Stallion’s shooting was denied Thursday, according to report.
Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, appeared in court for the decision, according to Rolling Stone.
Judge David Herriford denied the bail motion, citing the “violent felony” Tory was convicted of and his history of “violating court orders.”
He’s currently appealing to overturn his conviction in the shooting. Tory’s attorneys had motioned for a bail release earlier this month as he awaits the appeal decision, journalist Meghann Cuniff reported.
The singer’s attorneys Crystal Morgan and Michael Hayden, from the legal group Unite the People, are representing him for the appeal.
The group’s CEO Caesar McDowell said the decision was unfair. “To be convicted for 10 years in state prison for your first time being in prison, we feel that that’s disproportionate, we feel that he wasn’t given a fair shake,” he said outside of court.
Tory was sentenced for the shooting in August after he was found guilty of first-degree assault with a firearm.
