On Dec. 29, the toddler’s mother, Yolanda Hunter, 29, surrendered to police after a capital murder warrant was issued. She was also charged with felony child abuse.
Her boyfriend, Herman Coleman, 33, faced the same charges and was wanted by police, Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said in a news conference.
Prodigy had a “massive amount of trauma” including bruises that covered his entire body.
Hunter’s four other children were taken away and placed in the custody of the state’s Department of Child Protective Services.
Police are searching for Hunter, who was released on bail earlier in the investigation and Coleman, who has reportedly been on the run since the boy’s death.
