BATON ROUGE – A federal judge has ordered a pause in rapper NBA YoungBoy’s gun charge trial.
The decision comes as the U.S Supreme Court prepares to make a ruling on Second Amendment rights later this Spring, which may affect the rapper’s trial.
YoungBoy’s legal team has argued that the law he’s accused of violating, which prohibits convicted felons from possessing firearms, is unconstitutional under the Second Amendment because it was “inconsistent with our nation’s historical tradition of firearm regulation.” They believe NBA YoungBoy’s defense could benefit if there’s a ruling against similar federal gun restrictions by the Supreme Court.
The rapper, whose real name is Kentrell Gaulden, was indicted in March 2021after allegedly being found with two guns during a video shoot in September 2020. Sixteen people were arrested on drug and gun charges.
