SOUTH CAROLINA – Two teenage boys drowned after jumping off of a bridge on a dare by their friends, police said.
The bodies of Rayan Alnasser, 16, and Zakaria Chaar, 15, were recovered from Lake Hartwell on Monday after their deadly jump Saturday.
Police said the teens were egged on by friends, who met them at the scene. One of the boys jumped from the bridge, and after landing in the water, went into immediate distress.
The second boy jumped in after his friend in an attempt to save him but was dragged underwater by the strong current.
Another teen called 911 and first responders reportedly arrived within minutes.
The search for the boys continued until Sunday before cadaver dogs were brought on Monday. Their bodies were found around 11 a.m. Monday in the area of the lake about 15 feet deep.
