MATTHEWS, N.C.- A 16 year old has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting another 16 year old at his school.
According to authorities, 16 year old Jatwan Craig Cuffie, shot and killed Bobby McKeithen during an argument at Butler High School. The suspect was first arrested on suspicion of shooting and killing the victim but has been charged with murder.
According to (WSOC-TV), one student became upset with the other one, which lead to the shooting in the main hallway at the school, at around 7 a.m.. The shooting was allegedly due to bullying but authorities are not sure who was the aggressor.
A teenager who attends the school told (WSOC-TV) that she saw one student shooting the other student as he was walking away. Police are also saying that the shooting was caught in surveillance. It’s not clear what type of gun the suspect used.
Parents marched to the school at around 9 a.m. in fear that it could have been their child seeking answers but weren’t allowed too close to the school, as there was an active school shut down. At around 9:15 a.m., students began to be released to their parents.
The victims father said “My sons life was lost over foolishness.”
Classes will resume on Monday and a vigil was held for the victim.
