Alfonso Ribeiro, who is best known for his role as Carlton Banks from the 90’s sitcom “The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air” filed a lawsuit this week against epic games, who are the makers of “Fortnite.” His lawsuit claims in his lawsuit that the game stole his dance moves from the show he was on, for their game.
Ribeiro is not the only celeb who is suing Epic games for stealing their dance moves.
Rapper 2 Milly is also suing the game for using his “Milly Rock” dance and so is the kid who invented “The Floss Dance.”
Copyright experts who spoke to NBC, said Ribeiro may have a hard time winning his lawsuit because “He created and performed that dance while acting on a television show he was a performer on, so it was likely ‘work for hire'” that belongs to the show’s producers,” said copyright lawyer Scott Alan Burroughs.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the U.S. Copyright Office issued a guidance last that states it cannot “registar short dance routines consisting of only a few movements or steps with minor linear or spatial variations, even if a routine is novel or distinctive .”
Yikes..
That’s not where it ends. Ribeiro has said several times throughout the years, that the “Carlton Dance” was STOLEN from Eddie Murphy’s ‘White Man Dance” routine from his movie raw and from Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Dancing in the dark.”
So, how does he expect to win a lawsuit over a dance that clearly was stolen and technically belongs to the show ‘The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air?”
I’ll keep you posted..
