Prosecutors in Florida are seeking the death penalty for rapper YNW Melly.
According to TMZ, Florida state believes that it can show “beyond a reasonable” that YNW Melly, whose real name is Jamell Demons committed both acts of murder for his “financial gain.”
Prosecutors are also labeling the rapper as a gang member.
The 19-year-old Florida rapper whose single “Murder On My Mind” became a hit (especially after his arrest), was arrested on February 13th and charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the shooting deaths of Christopher Thomas Jr. (aka YNW Melly) and Anthony Williams (aka YNW Sakchaser), who were shot and killed in October of 2018.
What’s crazy, is that these men were his friends.
The motive is still unknown.
YNW Melly allegedly made the shooting look like a drive-by with his co-defendant YNW Bortlen. They both have pleaded guilty.
Public records show that the state’s notice of intent to seek the death penalty was filed on April 18th.
