When I first wrote about Maleah Davis, I had some hope that she would be found alive, but according to the latest news, it looks like Maleah’s remains have been found.
Derion Vence, Maleah’s stepfather, who’s been in custody, told community activist Quanell X that Maleah had died by accident and he dumped her body in Arkansas.
After authorities received that information, they followed up on it, went to the area where Vence said he dumped her, and sure enough they found a black garbage bag with the remains of a child’s body.
Maleah was reported missing on May 4th by Vence, who originally told police that he was knocked unconscious by 3 Hispanic on May 3rd while he stopped to fix his tire. He said he remained unconscious for 24 hours, waking up without Maleah.
He told police that the men kidnapped her.
He’s been in custody since May 11th, a week after he reported her missing.
Police found her blood in his apartment.
It’s unclear if the mother will be charged.
