A letter from the late Tupac to Madonna is up for auction again, after the singer went to court attempting to stop the letter from going public.
The letter is from when Tupac Shakur was in prison in 1995. He was dating Madonna at the time, and it was actually a break-up letter.
In the letter, Tupac wrote to Madonna,”I must apologize to you. Because like you said I haven’t been the kind of friend I know I am capable of being. Not because I am evil or because you weren’t worthy but at the risk of sounding over dramatic, the effects of racism make it difficult for a young black man to properly show affection for an older white woman.”
Tupac felt the pressure from his community, and said his the “effects of racism” made it hard for him to date Madonna.
In 2017, Madonna filed for an emergency court order in New York City attempting to block the the sale of the letter, and actually won a temporary one.
At the time, the letter was selling for $100,000.
The letter is part of several items that the company Gotta Have Rock and Roll obtained from Madonna’s former friend, Darlene Lutz
Tupac died the following year after writing the letter..
The auction will be open July 17th.
