Man with down syndrome left to die in hot car as caretaker got high

Florida- A man with down syndrome has died as a result of being baked alive inside of a vehicle while his caretaker was getting high.

26-year-old Joshua Russell has been arrested after police say that he got high off of a opiate-like plant Kratom, then passed out for hours, as 35-year-old John LaPointe, who has the mentality of a 1-year-old “baked” in the back of the van they were in.

Authorities say that when Russell did wake up, he found LaPointe slumped over a seat.

CPR was performed on LaPointe, but he was already dead, as the heat was at about 125 degrees according a sheriff at a press conference.

Russell was supposed to take LaPointe to his doctor’s appointment, but decided to high so he could stay awake, but took so much, he basically overdosed.

Before cops were on to him, Russell was planning to kill himself, but his mother stopped him.

He’s been charged with manslaughter and carrying a concealed weapon, but according to Bay News 9, he’s out on a $50,000 bond.
