Brown

4-year-old girl killed by family member; burned with cigarettes and more

PHILADELPHIA- A 4-year-old was brutally killed in the hands of someone who was supposed to be her caretaker.

38-year-old Samilya Brown was charged on Tuesday with murder, endangering the welfare of a child and other charges in the death of Zya Singleton who was in her care. This is according to a press conference from the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.

Police responded to a call on Oct. 30 about a child who had fallen from a 2nd floor window while playing with a cat. Singleton was taken to the Hospital where doctors found wounds that weren’t consistent with the story Brown gave police.

The victim was taken to the Hospital, but unfortunately died on Nov. 4th from numerous injuries she sustained from the abuse in the hands of Brown.

A medical examiner found the 4-year-old girl had cigarette burns on her body, bite marks, “homemade stitches”, open wounds to her scalp, face and she was severely malnourished…

According to NBC, Brown was the child’s mother’s god sister, and was given custody of her by the mother, so Zya wouldn’t go to foster care (where she would have been better off in my opinion).
