CALIFORNIA- Singer Anita Pointer of the group The Pointer Sisters has died.
The singer reportedly died of cancer at 74 on Saturday in her Beverly Hills home where she was surrounded by family, according to her publicist.
Anita was the second oldest of four sisters. She sang with her sisters June and Bonnie in the group. Bonnie left the trio in the late 1970’s.
The family released a statement which read:
“While we are deeply saddened by the loss of Anita, we are comforted in knowing she is now with her daughter Jada and her sisters June & Bonnie in peace. She was the one that kept all of us close and together for so long. Her love of our family will live on in each of us,” it read.
The group was known for their hits such as “Yes We Can Can” from their debut album which was released in 1973.
And other hits like “Fire”, “Slow Hand”, “Jump” and of course “I’m So Excited.”
