Former major league baseball players Luis Valbuena and Jose Castillo are dead following a car crash in Venezuela on Thursday.
Authorities believe that this may have been part of a criminal act by a gang of thieves,due to how the victims died, according to a Mexican newspaper.
According to El Universal, a huge rock was placed on the road where the White Toyota Fortuner that Castillo, Valbuena and the other victims were in. This is a known tactic that are used by criminals in Venezuela to rob people.
The rock caused them to crash, and when police arrived on the scene, the victims were robbed, along with the vehicle being looted.
Both who are Venezuelan were the country playing winter leagues.
Valbuena, 33, was an infielder who played for the Seattle Mariners, Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Angels and The Houston Astros.
Castillo, 37, played as an infielder from 2004-2008 with the San Francisco Giants, Astros and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He later moved on to play in Japan and Taiwan.
There were two other men in the car, including the driver Carlos Rivero, who played for the Boston Red Sox that survived.
