Body Cam Footage Shows Jayland Walker Was Unarmed When Shot And Killed By Police

OHIO- Police have released body cam footage which shows that Jayland Walker was unarmed when he was killed by police.

Akron police released the shocking footage that shows the moments leading up to the shooting death of Jayland Walker, on June 30.

Walker was shot by 8 different officers after fleeing from his vehicle during a traffic stop.

Walker’s death has been ruled as a homicide, authorities said.

Akron police Chief Steve Mylett described the footage as “shocking” and “difficult to watch”.

The footage shows an officer following Walker’s car on a high-speed chase. Police can be heard saying they heard the “sound of a gunshot” coming from the suspect’s car.

During the conference, police showed images of what appeared to be a flash coming from Walker’s window, despite him being unarmed.

The video shows Walker’s car slowing down, and he’s seen jumping out in a ski-mask and fleeing on foot. Walker is seen looking back as eight officers opened fire on him.

Police said they thought Walker was reaching for his waistband. When a medical examiner arrived at the scene, Walker’s body was found handcuffed by police.

Walker suffered 60 gunshot wounds.

The officers involved are on paid administrative leave.

Protests have begun in Akron, demanding justice for Walker.

In response to Walker’s death, Akron has cancelled its Fourth Of July events.
